About Me
I am a student attending the University of Maryland. I was tasked with researching a topic over the course of the semester for my English101 class.
I picked the topic of physician assisted suicide (PAS) because it is such a controversial topic that has implications of impacting a greater and greater amount of Americans, as the baby boomers continue to age.
Starting off
My position was one of against physician assisted suicide. However, as I dug deeper into the topic I found my position changing somewhat.
While I may still find PAS immoral personally, I do no think that my opinion should be forced upon others. Especially when PAS can help those in need.
PAS does offer families a greater sense of control in one of the most troubling times they will come across. Seeing the stories of M.D. Klinger and M.D. Green you can tell that PAS does provide some with a great sense of comfort.
In addition, there is an ethical concern. Why should other people have say over a matter that is so private and personal as this?
If you stop them on this matter because you find it troubling to your own morality, what is to say that later someone won't try and stop you, using the same logic.
However, this time using their own morality and not your own.
Conclusion
Because of this ethical concern and the good PAS does, not only for the terminally ill but their family as well. I think it is important that PAS be legalized across America.
